Dried apples work great for making butter because a long part of the cooking process is done. But this is still a long, slow recipe and cooking equipment varies. The result is a velvety smooth apple butter that will rival any store bought brand.

Ingredients

4 Cups Dried Diced Apples

6 Cups Water

1 Cup Granulated Sugar

1/4 Cup Brown Sugar

1/2 Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon

1/2 Teaspoon Ground Nutmeg

1/2 Teaspoon Salt
Directions

Add the apples and water to a slow cooker and set to low. Cook the apples slowly for as much as 4 hours until the apples are mushy soft. Use an immersion blender to process the mixture to very smooth, a high-speed blender will also work but use extra water to rinse out all the puree from the hopper.

Add the sugars, spices and salt and continue cooking the puree for 8-10 hours on the lowest setting. The puree will turn brown and become very thick. Remove to sanitized jars and seal accordingly to ensure safe storage.
