  1. Place all ingredients in 4-quart pot and cover. Simmer over low heat for 2 to 3 hours, stirring occasionally. Check seasoning and adjust accordingly.

  2. Allow sauce to cool, then purée until smooth with immersion blender.

  3. Note: you can substitute our salt free chili powder in this recipe.
