Directions

Layer ingredients in order in 1-quart mason jar or similar container.

To cook, bring 9 cups water to a boil. Stir in contents of mason jar. Return to boil, then reduce heat and simmer until lentils are tender, adding water as needed to keep ingredients covered by cooking liquid.
