Nasi Goreng literally means fried rice in Indonesian. It's the perfect dish for our Sambal Oelek Sauce Starter, and a hallmark of Indonesian Cuisine. Add more Sambal Oelek to your taste to increase the flavor and spiciness.

Ingredients

1 Dash Sambal Oelek Starter, 45 gram pack

3/4 Cup Water

2 Cups White Or Basmati Rice, cooked

1 Cup Onion, large dice

1/2 Cup Leeks, large dice

3/4 Cup Hot Finger Peppers, seeded, large dice

1/4 Cup Red Bell Peppers

1 Tablespoon Garlic
-
1 Tablespoon Ginger
-
2 Tablespoons Ground Cumin

2 Tablespoons Ground Coriander

1/2 Cup Sweet Soy Sauce

1/4 Cup Tomato Paste

1 Tablespoon Vegetable Oil

Directions

In a small pot, simmer the 3/4 cup water. Remove from heat, and whisk in the Sambal Oelek Sauce Starter. Mix very well, refrigerate.

In a high speed blender, puree the onion, leeks, hot finger peppers, garlic, ginger, coriander, cumin, sweet soy sauce, and tomato paste. Blend into a smooth puree.

In a medium non-stick skillet, heat the vegetable oil on medium heat. Add 5 Tbsp of the puree, and 1 Tbsp of the Sambal Oelek. Sauté for 1 minute. Add cooked rice, stir very well. Saute for 3 minutes until rice is hot and puree is evenly distributed. Season to taste.

Serve with extra Sambal Oelek on the side. Other traditional condiments include krupuks, pickled cucumber, shredded egg, scallions, and roasted peanuts.
