Ingredients
Makes 1 1/4 cups
-
2 Large Yellow Onions
-
1 Tablespoon Butter, Unsalted
-
2 Fresh Thyme Sprigs
-
1 Teaspoon Onion Salt
-
Water
Directions
-
Cut off the root and sprouting ends of the onions. Lay them on a cut side and halve them, peel off the skins. Thinly slice the onion halves.
-
Place a large skillet over medium high heat and add the butter. When the butter has mostly melted add the sliced onions. Cook the onions without stirring until the edges show some browning. Toss the onions around the pan and continue cooking. When the bottom of the skillet begins to collect some brown add 1 or 2 tablespoons of water. The color will steam off the pan and go into the onions.
-
Add the thyme sprigs.
-
Repeat the first and second steps, letting the onions cook with little or no moving until the water is added. After the onions are brown, soft and sweet sprinkle the onion salt over and toss to combine.
