  • Basic prep

    Bring 1-3/4 cups water, 1 cup Speckled Brown Rice Blend and 1 tablespoon butter or olive oil to boil in a medium saucepan. Cover tightly, reduce heat and simmer 40 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand 10 minutes. Fluff with fork and serve.

    Store in a dry, cool place.

    We designed our Speckled Rice Blend to offer exceptional flavor and a dramatic presentation. Since it contains only whole-grain rice, it is also a nutritious alternative to more ordinary white rices. Speckled Rice Blend is made with five different rice varieties including three varieties of brown rice, natural red rice and black japonica rice.
    The three varieties of brown rice include both short and long grain brown rice. These varieties make for an intriguing combination of textures and flavors.
    This blend also uses a form of sprouted rice brown rice commonly called "GABA" rice because the sprouting process increases the amount increases gamma-aminobutyric acid (or Gaba) within the grain. Gaba is found naturally in the brain, and plays a role in the regulation of muscle tone and in reducing stress and insomnia.
    The visual appeal and savory flavor of Speckled Brown Rice Blend is heightened by the inclusion of natural red rice. Natural red rice has a nutty flavor and popcorn-like aroma when cooked. We also chose to use this rice because it is prepared with its red hull intact preserving its natural, deep red color.
    We also blend in black Japonica rice, a short-grain black rice developed with seeds original from Japan. Black Japonica rice is prized for its rich, almost mushroom-like flavor.
    Together, these varieties combine to make a blend with amazing flavor, aroma and texture.
