    Ingredients

    Wheat berries. Contains wheat.

Wheat (Triticum aestivum) is a well-known, nutritious grain which evidence suggests has been cultivated as far back as 12,000 years ago. It is believed to have helped support the development of large societies and, through its industrialization, allowed for the rise of urban centers. Wheat has also had religious and mythological significance to societies including the ancient Greeks, Romans, Sumerians and Finns, to whom the grain was so vital they had gods and goddesses of wheat. It is estimated that one-third of the world's population depends upon wheat for nourishment.

While whole wheat flour is commonplace, Wheat Berries are less well known. Our Soft White Wheat Berries are the same protein-rich wheat berries used to make flour, however after being hulled, their bran, endosperm and germ layers are left intact. This means they are a naturally whole-grain wheat product with the all its nutrient-containing components intact.

Soft White Wheat Berries have a higher carbohydrate but lower gluten content than their hard red wheat counterparts, making them better to cook with and sprout. Our Soft White Wheat Berries come from spring wheat grown in the South and Midwest regions of the United States.

Cooked Soft White Wheat Berries can be used in a variety of ways. They can be cooked and tossed with vegetables and dressing for a hearty salad, added to soups and stews or even served with fruit, nuts and milk as a hot breakfast cereal. They can even be baked into creamy puddings, as a departure from traditional rice pudding.

Soft White Wheat Berries are loaded with fiber, protein and iron, as well as B vitamins. They are also a good source of vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant, as well as magnesium, which is important for bone and muscle health.
