    Ingredients

    Organic white peppercorns.

Our Organic Fine Ground White Peppercorns are a great alternative to ground black pepper in white or light-colored foods. We harvest and process certified organic peppercorns without additives or preservatives to ensure that nothing interferes with the natural flavor, and then finely grind them to a smooth, light tan powder.

White Peppercorns come from the common pepper plant, a flowering tropical plant that produces tiny berries. These berries can be harvested and processed at various stages of their maturity to achieve different flavors and colors. White peppercorns are fully mature, partially ripe berries that have had their red outer skins soaked off. They have a subtler flavor than black peppercorns, with sweet, fruity and hot undertones.

Peppercorns have far-reaching cultural and historical significance. Europeans sought them as far back as ancient times, and as a result they often drove exploration and commerce. As early as the Roman Empire, they were bought, sold and taxed. The lure of pepper and other spices brought explorers from all over Europe to India during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.

India is currently the world's largest producer of peppercorns, and experts believe the plant originated its Southern Indian state of Kerala.
