Our Hot Chili Powder is a blend of carefully chosen chilies to add powerful flavor and color to any dish needing a spicy pop. We use ancho chilies to achieve deep red color and spicy chile de árbol for heat. Both also add a significant amount of deep and rich flavor, with fruity, slightly sweet undertones.
The ancho chile is the dry version of the poblano pepper, with a deep red color and a wrinkled outer skin. They are sweet, bitter, and smoky. They can be reconstituted and used whole, but in our Hot Chili Powder, the ancho is dried and ground for our special blend.
One of our other ground chiles is the chile de árbol, sometimes known as bird's beak chile or rat's tail chile. It's a thin and relatively small pepper, but it packs a hot punch despite its size. The word árbol describes its woody stem, as the word árbol means "tree" in Spanish. The chile de árbol adds a bright grassiness to our Hot Chili Powder, as well as its signature spiciness.
Our Hot Chili Powder is especially valuable in Mexican and Southwestern cuisines. This blend is perfect for an authentic chili con carne or any of its variations. It's also a great addition to Tex-Mex dishes, spice rubs for meat, potatoes, enchiladas and many Mexican dishes.
