Our Hickory Steak Seasoning provides the perfect balance of salt, sweet and hickory smoke to give steaks a smoke-kissed flavor, whether cooking on charcoal, gas or even the stovetop. This classic mix features a blend of salty, sweet and mildly hot spices with hickory smoke flavor.
Our Hickory Steak Seasoning can be used to flavor meat or vegetables prior to cooking. Rub or sprinkle on about 1 tablespoon of seasoning per pound of meat or vegetables. It can also be used as a base to flavor a homemade barbecue sauce.
Hard woods such as hickory, due to their composition, caramelize food as the burn, producing sweet, slightly fruity aromas in addition to the strong smoke flavor imparted. This makes them particularly well suited to barbecuing.
Smoking food dates back to our earliest ancestors. However, the method of smoking has changed. Before the era of modern refrigeration, smoking was used primarily to preserve, so food was very heavily salted to cure it and then smoked for long periods of time, sometimes as long as several days. Today's smoke-based cooking serves a difference purpose: imparting the delicious flavor of smoke into meat. With this change has come a change in technique and a reduction in the duration of time necessary to produce a finished product.
