    Ingredients

    Black Mission Figs, dextrose.

The Black Mission Fig is a popular variety of fig, introduced to the United States in 1768 when planted in San Diego by missionaries. The plant quickly became popular and is widely appreciated today.

Our Black Mission Figs are grown in orchards right here in the U.S.A. They are harvested at their peak of ripeness, then sun-dried to a sweet perfection. When dried naturally, the sugars in the fig move to the surface of the skin, producing an off-white coloring. This sugaring process gives the fruit an instant sweet taste, making it an even more delicious.

Figs grow on the Ficus tree (Ficus carica), a member of the Mulberry family and the Black Mission is a popular variety of the edible fig.

  • A natural quick-energy source, figs are also high in fiber, iron, folic acid and potassium

  • Black Mission Figs have more flavor and sweetness than the golden variety of figs

  • Blended with savory ingredients, such as salt, cocoa and spices, figs can produce a "meaty" flavor that has a smoky, almost steak-like aroma and taste

  • Delivers an explosion of unexpected sweetness, infused in salads, breads and desserts

  • Famous for their distinctive flavor, they make a tasty paste for spreads and fillings

    Warm Figgy Pudding

Figgy pudding is a traditional British Christmas dessert that goes back to Shakespeare’s time. In this version, the common rum or sherry-soaked fruit is replaced with a purée of rehydrated figs, dates and water, adding important moisture to the finished product, while grated dark chocolate adds complexity.
