    The Aleppo chile pepper (Capsicum annum), also called the halaby pepper, is grown in Syria and Turkey. Its most common form is sun-dried and crushed into flakes, which are often used in the same way as crushed red pepper or paprika. While it is quickly growing in fame and popularity, this beloved spice was a well-kept secret of the Middle East until the 20th century.

    Mediterranean Aleppo Chile Flakes are milder and more oily and salty than traditional crushed red pepper, with the saltiness coming from the salt used in the drying process. The flakes contain only the outer flesh, with no seeds or membranes, which allows them to maintain a milder flavor.
